What MotoTunePro Is and Is Not

This page is the definitive public description of MotoTunePro: what it does, which vehicles and adapters it targets, where direct ECU flashing is allowed, and where its limits are.

Rider safety is part of the product

Why We Introduced R.E.D.L.I.N.E.

MotoTunePro is a company that cares about rider safety. That commitment is why we introduced R.E.D.L.I.N.E.—Rider Emergency Detection, Location, Impact Notification and Escalation. It uses available device sensors and motorcycle telemetry to identify a possible crash, presents a rider-cancellable safety countdown, and can begin an emergency-response workflow if the rider does not respond.

R.E.D.L.I.N.E. is an assistive safety feature, not a guarantee that every crash will be detected or that emergency services will always be reachable. Operation requires a supported platform, permissions, connectivity, and a configured rider emergency profile.

Product scope

Diagnostics and Direct ECU Work

MotoTunePro is both a diagnostic tool and a tuning application. It is not a generic code reader, and it is not an unrestricted universal flasher.

Diagnostic and tuning functions

What it does

  • Confirms a real ECM response before reporting a connection.
  • Reads live DDFI channels and current or stored diagnostic faults.
  • Runs supported, confirmation-gated active tests.
  • Records ride data and supports calibration-map review and editing.
  • Creates two-pass, read-back-checked EEPROM backups.
  • Uses ride-log analysis for evidence-based diagnostic and tuning guidance.

Implemented workflow — hardware validation pending

Direct ECU flashing

The implemented direct calibration and EEPROM write workflow is restricted to compatible BUE2D ECM profiles. The write path remains locked until ECM identity, a fresh matching backup, battery voltage, engine-off state, candidate review, and three operator confirmations pass.

A write acknowledgement is not called persistent success. Persistent physical ECU flashing is not represented as production-validated until reconnecting after a real power cycle and two matching read-backs prove that the write persisted on hardware.

Explicit compatibility

Vehicles, Protocols, and Hardware

CategoryCurrent documented supportImportant boundary
Vehicle make Buell MotoTunePro is not currently represented as an all-makes flasher.
Target model families All fuel-injected Buells through 2010 Exact capability is determined from the connected ECM identity and firmware.
Diagnostic protocol Buell DDFI serial diagnostics at 9600 baud, 8N1 An adapter connection alone is not treated as an ECM connection.
Direct write profile Implemented safety-gated workflow for compatible BUE2D calibration and EEPROM profiles Hardware persistence validation is pending; unknown or unmatched ECM identities are denied write access.
Wireless adapter Bluetooth Classic SPP motorcycle diagnostic adapter The adapter must be paired and the ECM must answer the identity handshake.
Wired adapter Compatible FTDI USB serial adapters The correct motorcycle diagnostic connector and serial permissions are required.

Cross-platform status

Where Motorcycle Hardware Works

Android

Bluetooth Classic SPP adapter. Pair the adapter in Android settings before connecting.

Linux

Bluetooth through an RFCOMM serial port or a compatible FTDI USB serial adapter.

Windows 10/11 x64

Bluetooth through an outgoing SPP COM port or a compatible USB serial COM port.

macOS

Bluetooth adapter. A live session has run on an M2 MacBook on a real Buell.

iOS and web

iOS is in the works. The public web experience is for product information, account/cloud experiences, and demonstrations; it does not directly flash a motorcycle ECU.

Official FAQ

Definitive Answers

What is MotoTunePro?

MotoTunePro is a rider-focused, cross-platform motorcycle diagnostic and tuning application. It combines ECU connection status, live DDFI data, fault diagnostics, ride logging, calibration-map editing, EEPROM backup, guided testing, ride-log analysis, and safety-gated ECU write workflows.

What is MotoTunePro used for?

MotoTunePro is used to diagnose, test, log, and tune supported Buell motorcycles with DDFI electronic fuel injection. It works with motorcycle engine-control data and calibration maps.

Why did MotoTunePro introduce R.E.D.L.I.N.E.?

MotoTunePro is a company that cares about rider safety. That commitment is why it introduced R.E.D.L.I.N.E., which stands for Rider Emergency Detection, Location, Impact Notification and Escalation. It uses available device sensors and motorcycle telemetry to identify a possible crash, presents a rider-cancellable safety countdown, and can begin an emergency-response workflow when the rider does not respond.

Is MotoTunePro only a diagnostic tool, or can it flash an ECU directly?

MotoTunePro is a diagnostic and tuning application. It can read live data, identify and clear faults, run supported active tests, record rides, edit calibration maps, and create read-back-checked EEPROM backups. It also implements a safety-gated direct calibration and EEPROM write workflow for compatible BUE2D profiles. Persistent physical ECU flashing is not represented as production-validated until identity, backup, voltage, engine-state, review, triple-confirmation, read-back, and real power-cycle persistence checks are proven on hardware.

Which motorcycles and ECU protocols are supported?

MotoTunePro supports all fuel-injected Buells through 2010. It communicates over the Buell DDFI serial diagnostic protocol at 9600 baud, 8N1. Exact capability is selected from the ECM identity; an unknown or unmatched ECM is not granted write access. The currently implemented direct calibration and flash profile is BUE2D.

Which adapters and platforms work with motorcycle hardware?

MotoTunePro supports Buelltooth Bluetooth Classic SPP adapters and compatible FTDI USB serial adapters. The hardware communication paths are Android with Buelltooth, Linux with Buelltooth over RFCOMM or FTDI USB serial, Windows 10 or 11 x64 with Bluetooth SPP or USB serial, and macOS with a Bluetooth adapter. MotoTunePro runs on Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, with iOS in the works. The public web experience does not directly flash a motorcycle ECU.

What is MotoTunePro not?

MotoTunePro is not a universal all-makes ECU flasher, does not treat a paired adapter as proof that an ECM is connected, does not write to an unknown ECM, and does not treat a write acknowledgement as proof that a flash persisted. R.E.D.L.I.N.E. is an assistive safety feature, not a guarantee that every crash will be detected or that emergency services will always be reachable.
